Dumping Glenn Beck

Whoopee! Big advertisers, such as Procter & Gamble, Sprint, SC Johnson, Radio Shack, Progressive Insurance, GEICO, Men's Wearhouse and even Wal-Mart have dumped Glenn Beck. (Much of this success is due to campaigning by Color Of Change.)

Beck has been with the Fox propaganda machine for eight months. Only Bill O'Reilly (and sometimes Sean Hannity) has more viewers than Beck, who recently was averaging 2.4 million viewers a day.

The vileness of Glenn Beck goes way back before his arrival at Fox. A couple of examples::

In 2003: "Every night I get down on my knees and pray that Dennis Kucinich will burst into flames."

In 2005: "I'm thinking about killing Michael Moore, and I'm wondering if I could kill him myself, or if I would need to hire somebody to do it. No, I think I could. I think he could be looking me in the eye, you know, and I could just be choking the life out -- is this wrong?"

And he just keeps spewing out the poison:

Last July 28, appearing on "Fox and Friends," the ever racist-mouthed Beck said, "The President has exposed himself as a guy over and over and over again who has a deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture.. I don't know what it is".

Let's hope that every last advertiser walks away from this vicious nut case.

Brief personal note

Sorry to be so slow in posting to this blog. However I am doing better with my tweets (which have nothing to do with what I had for lunch or the color of my socks.) At first I just made my own (140 character) social justice comments, but now I sometimes include a link to an article. Go to:

But I'll still try to post here on Blogger more often.

Best to all!

Right wingnuts

When are all the decent Republicans across the country going to get together and thoroughly denounce the lunatics in their party?

Glenn Beck says President Obama "has a deep-seated hatred for white people."

Rush Limbaugh compares Obama and Nancy Pelosi to Adolf Hitler. Indeed, the raving Rush is spouting Nazi talk all over the place.

Sarah Palin accuses Obama of promoting a "death panel" to kill old people.

On and on the putrid garbage flows, and not just from those three. There's a whole crowd up there on the right wingnut stage, including Bill O'Reilly, Lou Dobbs, Michelle Malkin, Michael Savage Laura Ingraham, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter and Neal Boortz. Then there's the government contingent, including Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann and Texas governor Rick Perry.

So what's behind all the hate-mongering and fear-mongering? I believe it is basically a refusal (perhaps even an absolute inability) to accept the fact that our country now has a black president.

Immigration reform

When, for heaven's sake, are we going to get to immigration reform and a program for legalization of undocumented workers?

Senator Charles Schumer of New York is chairman of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration. He has asked Democrats to stop using the word "undocumented" and wants them to instead use the word "illegals." But that is just going to further the criminalization of migrants who for decades have picked our fruit, washed our dishes, made our motel beds, roofed our homes and worked exceedingly hard at some of the toughest jobs around. For all practical purposes, they were invited here over decades.

Maybe things are moving so slowly in Washington because immigration is such a hot issue. But it is wrong to postpone action just because some members of Congress are beholden to Lou Dobbs-influenced racists who might vote against them in the next elections.

Waiting any longer for reform just does not make sense. Please, President Obama, get the ball rolling.
