The Royal George Twins

Just five more days till we celebrate the 230th anniversary of declaring independence from a certain King George The Third.

Probably most Americans who have got out their Fourth Of July fireworks, drums, fifes and assorted picnic foods since then did not foresee the arrival of another Monarchical George in this land of the free. But alas, George Three was not the last, and now we're well into our sixth year of His Bushness lording it over us. God help us--and the rest of the world.

How did this come to pass? Well, somebody somewhere in the shadows of the inner sanctum dug up a weird invention called The Unitary Executive Theory. And the King of secrecy, spying and spin did embrace said theory with all his heart and soul. And verily, the majority of the Princes of the Senate and Lords of the House found themselves repeatedly bowing very deeply to the King who was convinced that he could go around laws and treaties and similar little annoyances. Indeed, His Majesty has acted as the Unitary Executive dozens of times.

But today there did appear a large bump on the King's highway, put there by a Supreme Court vote of five to three. This has spawned new hope, and maybe the celebrations next Tuesday will be the kickoff of a National Tea Party.
